Dog-friendly businesses

Bend doesn't make AAA's list of Top 10 "dog-friendly destinations," but we hope that will change.  In the meantime, here are tips on dog-friendly businesses for residents and visitors alike.

As always, please be a responsible dog guardian and ensure that your dog doesn't interfere with merchandise or other customers.

Check out the Resources page for travel-related books and websites for dog owners, whether you're visiting Bend or a Bendite traveling elsewhere.

There are numerous dog-oriented businesses in Bend, from veterinarians to pet stores. These can be located in the paper or web yellow pages. The focus of this page is "non-pet" businesses that are dog-friendly.  Do you know a dog-friendly businesses? If so, let me know and I'll list it here.

Dog policies can change without notice, so please check when making restaurant or hotel reservations. And if you find that one of these businesses no longer welcomes dogs, please let me know so I can update this site.  The cartoons are from www.cartoonstock.com.

Restaurants and eateries

Cascade Lakes Brewery Lodge.  The Ruff Wear water bowl is a nice touch, and Lani likes scarfing up the table scraps.

La Rosa Restaurant.  According to Bend Living, best margaritas in town, and you can enjoy them with your pooch.

Astro Lounge and Mars also score high on local "best of" lists, so enjoy your lemon drops amongst the dogs. Do they have a website? Who knows, but they're on Minnesota off Wall St.

Other businesses

Umpqua Bank allows dogs in their lobby, complete with water bowl and doggie treats.

Washington Mutual also allows dogs and gives out treats (at least at the branch on Franklin St).

FootZone and Sunnyside Sports are dog-friendly places to get geared-up, and they give discounts to patrons who are members of local outdoor organizations (ask for details if you're a member of COTA, CONC, TLC, MBSEF, etc.).  REI used to be dog-friendly, but they no longer allow dogs -- due to an incident in one of their California stores from what I heard. They still sell dog gear.

Birkenstock of Bend hosted the Humane Society, complete with dogs and cats, during a recent Art Walk.  They don't seem to have a website, but they're on Wall St., across from FootZone.

Your dog can help you select your next laptop at Connecting Point Computers.

Many gas stations give out dog biscuits.  If you're driving to Portland, stop in at Safeway in Madras (on the right, north end of town) for biscuits and apparently the cheapest gas in Central Oregon if you have a Safeway Club Card.
